We all know the software industry continues to evolve with new products and releases.  The latest, greatest version of something is being released soon and so are the challenges.  Due to the continous migration to new products and technologies we often find out that data from other programs which once integrated (or at least imported) and we so heavily depended on, now is incompatible or the data we once shared with others is not easily portable.

And then of course, is the unpredictable occurences.  Systems or their disks will occasionally fail to operate properly (this usually happens when you least expected it or need it) and the replacement system offers no mechanism to bring the data over. Sure, a new PC hard drive only costs about $100 but how much are all the pictures, documents and other files on your disk worth?

And then sometimes you just get a file you can't open or use in the format provided.

Depending on your needs any of the above can be a hardship. It can delay projects weeks and even months or just simply not allow you to do the work you need to get done today.
